Brevard County, Florida offers a wide variety of options for the dream of owning an amazing beach front home. Florida has plenty of beaches throughout the state, but some areas are going to be harder to afford property at than others. While Miami might be off limits to many people, there are some amazing options throughout Brevard County that are worth a serious look by anyone who has ever dreamed of that perfect dream house on a Florida beach.

However owning a beach home isn’t all just fun and games. You need to know there are some special steps you need to take in order to keep your home in the best possible shape.

Tip 1: Pay Attention to Salt Spray from the Sea and Storm Surges

As the owner of a Brevard County beach home, you will need to be aware of the damage that can be caused naturally from salt that is going to come from ocean spray and even on the wind. While this can’t be prevented completely because of house location, you can help slow the process. The salt is especially damaging to metal, so frequently washing buildup off of exposed metal can be a major help. Some people even go so far as to get a basic silicone spray on outdoor metal to help prevent salt from sticking and causing rust damage.

Tip 2: Watch for Any Potential Erosion Issues

While every reasonable effort is made by the county to make sure all beachfront houses are up to code and set up to be safe but one truth about coastal land is that it will erode away over time. While hopefully this won’t be an issue that threatens the integrity of your home, it is always important to keep a close eye on the edge of the property as well as any support beams that might be in at risk land.

Tip 3: Insurance Is a Big Deal

Keep in mind that when it comes to natural disasters, flood insurance or water damage insurance is separate from general home owner’s insurance. You want to get this additional coverage so in case of storm or disaster you don’t have to worry about the damage being covered. You now have your dream home on the beach – make sure it is fully covered so you don’t have to worry about a worse case scenario.
